"The Track of Szumow"The maps of "The Track of Szumow" and other hiking tracks, were drawn by KARTPOL, located in Lublin. "The Track of Szumow" - the most recommended hiking tour in the parish of Susiec. It leads through the forest tourist track = blue indicators, along rivers Jelen and Tanew. The total length of the track is about 17 km. We start our journey from the train station, heading towards the West. Passing the school we take a left turning and walk into the forest, up to the river Jelen. Hiking along the bank of the river we come across the waterfall on river Jelen, the height of the waterfall is 1.5 meters (30min.).. Directed by the blue indicators we move along shady path by the bank of the river. After 45 min. we take a right turning, going down a steep slope to the ravine full of felled trees and ferns. Thereafter, we move from the river and discover black indicators, linked with the blue indicators leading us to naturally fortified hill called Kosciolkiem (Church) or Gołdap’s Zamczysko (Castle) - 246m above the sea level (there is a legend about knight Goldap and delightful Tanewie) (1.5 hrs.). Then, we walk over the footbridges above the overflowing water levels created by beavers, heading towards the meadow, subsequently, we stroll over the bridge on river Tanew. Just beyond the river you can find the place where river Jelen falls into the river Tanew. The track leads up the hill through the sandy way next to the beautiful slope of strict Reserve. When we have reached the top, we take a left turning to the East searching for the blue indicators of the track (we do not follow the black indicators any longer, they pilot to the West). 2 hours should have passed since we left Susiec. Now, we should be able to hear the roar of water from a distance, at last we have arrived at the centre of the Reserve "Nad Tanwią”. There are 24 waterfalls on the curve of river Tanew in Rebizanty area on a section of 400 m . The waterfalls characterize themselves by being positioned regularly, mostly along straight lines perpendicularly to the shore of the river, and they are called "Szumy" (szum=noise) also from the sound of falling water. Extremely interesting vegetation is growing throughout the Reserve. There have been recognized about 40 species of plants. The rare and protected plant species found here: Lycopodium annotinum, coral elder (Sambucus racemosa) and alpine currant. There live here rare species of birds also: black stork, wagtail and kingfisher. There has been directed right through the Reserve Educational Track (concentrating on Nature) = red indicators.
